Case Study: Bosch achieves fast, blockchain-agnostic micropayments with Hyperledger (Perun layer-2 protocol)

A Hyperledger Case Study

Step-by-step process leads Bosch to Hyperledger Labs with Perun layer-2 protocol

Bosch Research, the advanced R&D arm of The Bosch Group, needed a blockchain‑agnostic layer‑2 solution to enable fast, low‑value, high‑frequency micropayments between IoT devices as part of its Economy of Things strategy. To meet that challenge they adopted the Perun layer‑2 protocol and moved the project into Hyperledger Labs, partnering with academics and PolyCrypt while following an open‑source, Apache‑2.0 approach.

Hosted in Hyperledger Labs, the Perun implementation delivered an SDK and an embedded‑device library, was demoed across Ethereum, Polkadot and Cosmos, and became one of Hyperledger’s top ten most active labs in 2021. The solution achieved measurable performance (over 1,000 tx/s, near‑zero cost per tx and instant confirmations), supports payments in any cryptocurrency or CBDC, and gives Bosch a proven, blockchain‑agnostic way to scale micropayments.
