LedgerDomain, an enterprise-grade blockchain solutions provider, faced the challenge of a fragmented, paper-based U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain that makes DSCSA compliance, tracing and verification error-prone and vulnerable to counterfeits and diversion. To address “the last mile” pharmacy problem, LedgerDomain built a DSCSA-focused solution on Hyperledger’s permissioned framework, selecting Hyperledger Fabric for its privacy, governance and enterprise support.

LedgerDomain implemented BRUINchain — a mobile barcode-scanning app, blockchain backend and oracle integration built on Hyperledger Fabric — and piloted it with UCLA Health to track Spinraza across 500 pharmacists. The Hyperledger-based system achieved 100% effective barcode scans, tracked every dose to the refrigerator, cut Form FDA 3911 reporting from about an hour to ~50 milliseconds, demonstrated >100 transactions/sec at scale (50M uploads), and reduced estimated per-prescription verification cost from $0.17 to $0.13, implying substantial industry savings.
