How ScanTrust Brought Transparency to the Supply Chain with Hyperledger Sawtooth

ScanTrust, an enterprise SaaS provider of copy‑proof QR codes and product digital identities, needed to enhance supply‑chain traceability and help its client Cambio Coffee bring more transparency to its direct‑trade, ethical‑trade business. To achieve this, ScanTrust partnered with Hyperledger and adopted the Hyperledger Sawtooth framework to add blockchain‑enabled traceability to its existing platform.

Using Hyperledger Sawtooth, ScanTrust implemented a 3‑node Sawtooth cluster with Python transaction processors integrated via a Django/DRF API server and RDS transaction log. Launched in May 2018 on Cambio Coffee packs, the solution records roast, harvest and shipment events immutably on the blockchain—the roaster and delivery company already enter data and customers have responded enthusiastically. ScanTrust reports lightning‑fast performance, clear transaction commits, has contributed template code back to the Hyperledger Sawtooth project, and plans to roll the feature out to shippers, farmers and additional blockchain initiatives.
