Case Study: Poste Italiane achieves multi-brand, real-time loyalty and tokenized rewards with Hyperledger Besu

How Poste Italiane brings value to loyalty with Hyperledger Besu

Poste Italiane, Italy’s national postal and financial services provider with 35 million customers and a vast retail network, needed a modern way to make loyalty programs more valuable and user‑centric. The challenge was to let customers combine points from multiple merchants and enable partners to interoperate without ceding control of their own programs. To address this, Poste Italiane selected Hyperledger’s Hyperledger Besu platform to build a permissioned, blockchain‑based loyalty solution.

Using Hyperledger Besu, Poste Italiane implemented a decentralized network where partners run nodes (or are hosted by Poste), digital wallets, ERC20/ERC721 tokens and smart contracts that automate minting, redemption and reconciliation. The result is real‑time point compilation instead of periodic reconciliation, a single mobile wallet and voucher flow that improves customer experience, reduced integration complexity for merchants, and a programmable token model that enables new multi‑brand business opportunities — all powered by Hyperledger Besu.
