Fujitsu and Botanical Water Technologies launch a global water exchange processing 460,000 liters per WHU per day with Hyperledger

Fujitsu Limited partnered with Botanical Water Technologies (BWT), which faced the challenge of scaling its process to recover and distribute billions of liters of plant-sourced water wasted by food and beverage processors. BWT needed a secure, global trading platform to track, certify, and facilitate transactions for this water, including sales and donations. To build this first-of-its-kind Botanical Water Exchange (BWX), Fujitsu utilized the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain framework.

Fujitsu implemented a private, permissioned blockchain solution using Hyperledger Fabric to create the BWX, which provides an immutable and trusted record of all water transactions. The platform successfully came online in Q2 2022. A single Water Harvesting Unit can now recover approximately 460,000 liters of water per day, and the fully scaled network aims to provide 3 trillion liters of potable water annually. This initiative is directly supporting BWT's goal to provide clean drinking water to 100 million of the world's most vulnerable people by 2025.
