Circulor achieves mine-to-manufacturer traceability for tantalum with Hyperledger Fabric in 3 mines

Circulor faced the challenge of proving the ethical sourcing of tantalum, a conflict mineral used in electronics, from Rwandan mines to manufacturers. Their goal was to create an unbroken, verifiable chain of custody to comply with OECD regulations and eliminate fraud, without relying on costly and unreliable paper-based systems. To achieve this, they implemented a blockchain solution using Hyperledger Fabric from vendor Hyperledger.

The solution built on Hyperledger Fabric used QR codes, facial recognition, and smart contracts to track tantalum through every transformation in its supply chain. This provided Circulor with a tamper-proof record from the mine to the final product. The results included a successful production launch at three mines and a refinery, slashing compliance costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and boosting potential revenues for Rwanda by verifying its conflict-free exports.
