A Hyperledger Case Study
The Verifiable Organizations Network (VON), a collaboration started by the governments of British Columbia, Ontario and Canada, set out to cut costly government “red tape” that burdens businesses (an estimated C$10 billion a year). VON needed a way to issue and verify trusted digital credentials so businesses and agencies could replace slow, paper-based due diligence with instant, verifiable identity — and chose Hyperledger Indy as the open-source framework to build that capability.
Using Hyperledger Indy, VON developed the OrgBook BC service and extended Indy with an enterprise wallet and SDK improvements (contributing that code back to Hyperledger). OrgBook BC (public beta 2018, announced January 2019) now contains digital IDs for 529,000 companies and 1.4 million credentials, supports issuance at about 2,600 credentials per minute, and enables governments and third parties to verify organizations in seconds while reducing development costs through open-source reuse.
