Unearthing Innovative Ideas at Anglo American

Anglo American, a global mining company with more than 90,000 employees across 56 sites in 15 countries, wanted to make employee ideas more accessible, visible and engaging. In Brazil the company had no single, intuitive system to capture and develop insights, and unstructured workflows limited collaboration and co-creation across business units.

Anglo American Brazil implemented the Planbox platform, customized into three tailored workflows so users can pitch, evaluate, comment on and refine ideas while a committee assigns the best paths forward. In the first year the program tracked hundreds of submissions (more than 500 initiatives overall) and produced three leading concepts — automated iron‑ore moisture measurement, a community dam risk alert system, and an OTR tire logistics redesign that cut transport costs by about 25% — while boosting transparency, collaboration and continuous improvement.
