How Bayer Used Planbox to Propel Cross-Disciplinary Engagement and Fast-Track the Selection of 25 WorldChanging Projects from Months to Weeks

Bayer, a global life‑science leader with nearly 100,000 employees, launched the Life Science Collaboration (LSC) program to break down silos and accelerate cross‑divisional innovation around its "Health for All, Hunger for None" vision. Faced with the challenge of rapidly surfacing and validating high‑potential ideas across pharmaceuticals, crop science, consumer health and data science, Bayer needed a scalable way to engage thousands of scientists, surface diverse perspectives, and fast‑track project selection.

Using the Planbox platform—most notably its playful Avatar Mode—Bayer turned ideation into a venture‑style marketplace where ~4,600 participants generated 90 proposals, exchanged 1,500 pieces of feedback, and made 5,500 virtual investments, enabling a selection of 25 projects in a matter of weeks. The outcome was a wave of cross‑disciplinary ventures in biology, chemistry and data science that are poised to accelerate medicines, advance crop protection, and drive sustainable life‑science solutions.
