A HYPE Innovation Case Study
TD Bank’s iD8 program was created to harness grassroots innovation from employees, but its original open‑funnel crowdsourcing model produced an overwhelming volume of submissions that were often misaligned with business priorities. Teams struggled to triage ideas, find business partners, and tie proposals to budgets and strategic goals, limiting the program’s ability to demonstrate clear value.
To address this, TD introduced a challenge‑driven layer on top of the open funnel—using the HYPE platform plus executive sponsorship, clear incentives, and structured evaluation—to focus ideation on specific business problems. The shift delivered measurable results: more than 100,000 submissions to date, 16,000+ ideas implemented since 2019 (1,600+ in 2024), 10,000+ active contributors, a 54% year‑over‑year increase in employee capacity hours saved, a patent base that grew 40%, and examples like a deployment improvement that saved 30,888 hours annually—along with stronger engagement, better customer outcomes, and tighter strategic alignment.
