Case Study: BERNINA (family-owned sewing-machine maker) achieves rapid product innovation and multiple new releases with HYPE Innovation's idea management platform

A HYPE Innovation Case Study

Preview of the Bernina Case Study

Bernina New Products through Cross-Departmental Ideation

BERNINA, a family‑owned maker of high‑quality domestic sewing and embroidery systems, needed a consistent way to capture and develop ideas from across the organization. Ideas arrived through multiple channels (email, mail, dealers) and were processed inconsistently, leading to duplicate submissions, missing details, unclear ownership and little cross‑department visibility or collaboration.

BERNINA rolled out HYPE’s idea‑management platform, starting with a small trial and scaling to about 50 experts across 10 departments to enable transparent, cross‑departmental ideation (one idea was enhanced 46 times by seven departments). The program captured 200 ideas and delivered two products to market with two more nearing release; profits from the DesignSkins product are donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
