Asklepios boosts PO automation to 97% with Hypatos

Asklepios, a major European private hospital operator, faced significant challenges in its accounts payable (AP) process. With over 1 million invoices annually from 15,000 suppliers across 150 facilities, its fragmented and outsourced setup struggled with low automation, especially for non-PO invoices which were entirely manual. The complex, highly regulated data environment, which included patient information and required specific healthcare privacy certifications, added further difficulty. The existing rules-based technology had reached its practical limit.

Hypatos implemented an AI-driven solution, beginning with a supplier-first rollout and obtaining the necessary C5 healthcare data security certification. Their system automated cost centre prediction and complex approval pool routing for non-PO invoices, and also automated the reconciliation of payment advice documents from health insurers. This resulted in a dramatic increase in automation rates: PO invoice processing rose to 97% (from 54%) and non-PO processing reached 86% (from 0%). The solution also enabled the phasing out of a third-party outsourcing dependency and improved compliance through automated VAT code validation.
