A Hyland Case Study
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology partnered with Hyland Credentials to solve a single challenge: provide graduates with an official diploma that is digital, tamper‑proof, easily verifiable, co‑owned by student and registrar, and retains verifiable digital signatures—while protecting MIT’s brand from fraud and impersonation.
Hyland and MIT built on the open‑source Blockcerts standard to issue blockchain‑anchored diplomas that preserve MIT’s historic diploma design, hash and sign credential data, and register records on the Bitcoin blockchain. Students receive files or use the Blockcerts mobile app to own, share and verify credentials, and MIT maintains a branded verification portal and public key catalog—resulting in student‑owned, easily shared, independently verifiable diplomas and stronger fraud protection for the Institute.
