Case Study: Canal Barge Company achieves paperless accounts payable and greater financial visibility with OnBase by Hyland

A Hyland Case Study

Preview of the Canal Barge Company Case Study

Marine transportation company transforms financial operations by eliminating manual processing and boosting visibility

Canal Barge, a New Orleans–headquartered transportation company, was overwhelmed by paper-based financial processes—its accounts payable department produced 300,000–500,000 sheets annually and years of stored documents were consuming valuable real estate. Facing the prospect of costly relocation or renovation, the company sought a technology solution to eliminate paper, increase visibility and streamline AP/AR operations.

In 2013 Canal Barge worked with DataBank to deploy OnBase by Hyland in the Hyland Cloud and integrate it with Infor Lawson, automating invoice capture, vendor validation, approvals and billing workflows. The solution removed manual processing, improved billing accuracy and process visibility, enabled desktop/mobile approvals, and allowed the company to handle a 20% billing growth without adding AP staff while freeing physical storage space.
