Hospital adopts an enterprise imaging strategy to integrate point-of-care images into the EMR

U.S. East Coast Hospital faced a growing problem with scattered medical images and video across many departments, devices, and storage locations, making point-of-care content hard to find, manage, and secure. To address this, the hospital worked with Hyland and its Acuo vendor neutral archive (VNA) and related imaging tools to assess enterprise-wide workflows, uncover 21 different image/viewing solutions and 10 storage systems, and identify gaps in DICOM and non-DICOM image capture and access.

Hyland helped U.S. East Coast Hospital move toward a unified enterprise imaging strategy that integrated point-of-care images into Epic and consolidated assets across clinical areas. The solution improved visibility, reduced reliance on workarounds like personal email and ad hoc storage, and strengthened clinical and data security. One measurable impact highlighted in the case was 6,095 images uploaded to Epic via personal email in June 2015, underscoring the scale of the issue Hyland’s approach was designed to solve.
