Case Study: Norman Regional Health System improves pressure ulcer detection and reduces hospital costs with Hyland's PACS Scan Mobile

A Hyland Case Study

Healthcare organization reduces hospital costs and expands patient care with mobile image management solution

Norman Regional Health System (NRHS) is a multi‑campus Oklahoma health system serving south central communities with 387 combined beds. NRHS wanted to reliably identify and track pressure ulcers at the point of admission to ensure proper care and avoid costly hospital‑acquired pressure injury classifications; previously bedside wound assessments were subjective and inconsistent, creating a need for an objective, documented process.

In March 2019 NRHS implemented Hyland’s PACS Scan Mobile, enabling wound photos to be captured on iPads, encrypted, and routed into the PACS and linked to the EMR as part of a “four‑eye” admission check. The quick deployment and easy training led to strong clinician adoption, improved early detection and monitoring of wound progression, secure centralized storage and annotation of images, measurable cost avoidance (identifying just two missed ulcers would cover the solution), and plans to expand use across the enterprise.
