A Hyland Case Study
The Royal Melbourne Hospital was working to eliminate paper and improve digital access to clinical information, but its pathology, radiology, cardiology, emergency, and other electronic systems operated in silos. This created IT sprawl, made records hard to find and share, and even encouraged paper hoarding, which affected collaboration and patient care. Hyland’s OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) solution was chosen to help unify these disconnected systems.
Hyland implemented OnBase across Melbourne Health in 2015, making it the primary clinical record for completed patient activity. The solution centralized content from paper, scans, reports, faxes, and databases, added metadata for easier search and retrieval, and presented a patient-centric view of information. As a result, clinical record content became available to clinicians all the time, improving access, organization, and sharing across the hospital.
