Stadtwerke München, Europe’s largest public utility company, faced the challenge of managing highly diverse, long-running document-based processes across many divisions and systems. With around 10,000 employees and complex requirements for technical documentation, version control, and integration with tools like SAP and SharePoint, the company needed a flexible ECM platform. It turned to Hyland’s Alfresco Content Services to support these needs.

Hyland implemented Alfresco as the main system for technical documentation, enabling seamless access to documents, contracts, drawings, inspections, approvals, and bills across business units. The solution’s search, scalability, and open integration helped Stadtwerke München connect about 10 applications, support 4,000 users, and maintain smooth performance with no complaints over recent years. Hyland’s Alfresco also gave SWM the freedom to customize workflows and front ends, supporting long-term digitalization efforts such as metadata mining and digital twins.
