HYCU gives seminary a degree in cost savings

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, a North Carolina institution serving more than 5,000 students, needed a better way to protect its growing Nutanix AHV environment after a ransomware scare exposed gaps in its off-campus disaster recovery approach. Its previous cloud backup vendor also imposed strict storage limits and costly overage charges, prompting the seminary to look for a simpler and more affordable alternative. HYCU Protégé was the backup and recovery platform considered to help reduce costs and support Nutanix and Google Cloud Platform.

HYCU implemented a solution that integrated tightly with Nutanix and used Google Cloud Platform as the cloud backup target, with help from Burwood Group. As a result, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary cut cloud backup costs dramatically—storing 10TB on GCP for about $100 per month compared with $1,400 per month for just 6TB with its previous vendor. With HYCU, the seminary also expanded backup capacity, simplified management, and gained flexible retention and restore options across on-premises and cloud environments.
