Steurs boosts flexo quality and cuts ink use with Hybrid Software

Steurs, a leading prepress house in the Benelux, sought to dramatically improve the quality and consistency of flexographic printing. Their challenge was to eliminate issues like edge voids in barcodes and the washboard effect on corrugated cardboard while also finding a way to automate their innovative but labor-intensive S-Dot screening technology for larger-scale production. They partnered with vendor Hybrid Software to address these challenges.

The solution implemented by Hybrid Software was to integrate Steurs' screening technology, now branded as Intelligent Flexo, as an automated module within their CLOUDFLOW workflow. This allowed for the automated application of microcell structures to screening dots, increasing ink transfer. The results were a drastic reduction in ink consumption, increased color strength and text sharpness, and the elimination of common flexo printing defects. Hybrid Software now markets Intelligent Flexo globally, providing a significant quality boost for flexo printers without requiring expensive new machinery.
