The University of Nottingham, working with 3DI, faced the challenge of measuring the rapid economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic across the UK. They needed timely, granular evidence to distinguish local impacts, combine them with pre-existing deprivation data, and give government decision-makers a clear view of where support was most needed. To address this, they turned to Huq Industries and its mobility data service.

Huq Industries provided a live behavioural intelligence layer that unified movement trends and district benchmarking. This solution contributed over one billion daily mobility events to the University's Track the Economy dashboard, enabling real-time economic monitoring and local-authority level comparisons. The results gave both local and central government a clearer, more current picture of economic conditions, allowing them to identify places affected by both existing deprivation and new economic shock for more targeted policy formulation.
