Case Study: Cytek achieves rapid ransomware containment and saves a dental surgery practice with Huntress

A Huntress Case Study

Preview of the Cytek Case Study

How Cytek saved a dental surgery practice threatened by data extraction, thanks to the 24/7 vigilance of Huntress

Cytek, a Tulsa-based cybersecurity and HIPAA compliance provider for dental practices, faced a ransomware attack that threatened data extraction at a dental surgery practice. Huntress’ Security Operations Center (SOC) detected the ransomware at 3:30 a.m. on December 11, 2023, and alerted Cytek, giving the team an early warning that a server had been compromised.

Huntress quickly isolated the affected server and worked with Cytek to remediate a malicious registry script while Cytek deployed Huntress agents across workstations to contain the threat. The swift response limited impact to two to three major machines, the client was back online the next day thanks to backups, the incident was fully resolved by December 19, and the larger group (about 90 practices) proceeded to roll out Huntress to thousands of workstations—preventing a far wider breach and protecting patient data.
