How a criminal’s convincing camouflage couldn’t fool Huntress

Cascade Technologies, an MSP serving SMBs, confronted a remote access trojan (RAT) delivered via a phishing link that targeted a long-standing restaurant client. Although the environment included SentinelOne and Acronis Cyber Protect, Cascade had engaged Huntress and its Managed Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR)/Managed Security Platform for continuous protection when the RAT—masquerading as Acronis—attempted to gain control of a workstation.

Huntress detected and immediately isolated the infected endpoint, notified Cascade, and provided live SOC support and an actionable remediation plan; within about 30 minutes additional agents were deployed and a second at-risk machine was scanned and isolated. Thanks to Huntress’ continuous monitoring and rapid response, the client remained open for business with only one machine offline for a few hours, the attempted breach was averted, and Cascade strengthened client trust and its security posture.
