Containing Trickbot and Emotet Bytes Computer & Network Solutions

Bytes Computer & Network Solutions, led by CTO Clint Bergman, faced a fast-moving infection when a client opened a malicious attachment that triggered Emotet and Trickbot across their environment. With an existing stack of Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, Bytes brought in Huntress for lightweight endpoint detection backed by human-led remediation to help contain the outbreak.

Huntress, deployed alongside Trend Micro, quickly identified malicious footholds on more than 200 endpoints and Huntress ThreatOps worked with Bytes to develop a PowerShell remediation script that killed processes, removed services/files/registry entries and wiped scheduled tasks. Executed via Bytes’ RMM and re-run every 15 minutes, the joint response remediated the environment within 72 hours, the script was shared industry-wide, and Huntress later turned the approach into an Assisted Remediation capability as Bytes plans to expand Huntress to its 3,000+ managed endpoints.
