Humio at MSU Real-Time Observability to Identify and Investigate Security Threats

Michigan State University (MSU) was challenged by the cost and limitations of its previous SIEM system, which restricted data ingest to 500 GB per day and prevented a complete security view. The university needed a more flexible, scalable, and cost-effective solution for security monitoring and chose to implement a solution from vendor Humio.

Humio's platform provided MSU with unlimited data ingest, enabling them to ingest nearly 1 TB of data daily and plan for 2 TB, a significant increase from their previous limit. The deployment was completed in under two weeks. This solution from Humio gave the security team full visibility without data gaps, eliminated concerns over scaling costs, and allowed for the creation of simple role-based data views for different IT teams.
