Nonprofit Expands Telemedicine Services with HughesXpress Wi-Fi to Reduce Health Inequities in Mexico

Pro Mazahua, also known as the Pro Mexico Indigena Foundation, is a nonprofit working to support Indigenous communities in the remote Chiapas region of Mexico. To expand telemedicine and reduce health inequities, the organization needed reliable internet connectivity for rural clinics and mobile medical teams, but local internet access was largely unavailable, slow, or unreliable.

Hughes partnered with Pro Mazahua to deploy HughesXpress Wi‑Fi with satellite connectivity and JUPITER VSAT technology at two rural clinics, creating hotspots that connected clinicians, patients, iPads, and medical devices to remote doctors. With Hughes, the program exceeded its goals and completed 3,184 telemedicine consultations in 2022, including 2,742 in the State of Mexico and 442 in Chiapas, improving access to care for thousands of people.
