M&T Bank boosts branch uptime with Hughes and cuts backup network costs

M&T Bank, a commercial bank with over 775 branches, faced a significant challenge to its business continuity. The bank was experiencing six to ten daily network outages across its branches and ATM locations due to incidents like excavation accidents and telecom outages. To ensure reliable operations and 24/7 customer care, M&T Bank turned to Hughes Network Systems and its HughesON managed network services for a solution.

Hughes implemented a multitransport broadband backup network utilizing DSL, cable, and 4G/LTE technologies to back up the bank's primary MPLS circuits. This HughesON solution included managed 4G/LTE "crash kits" for rapid deployment. The results were greatly improved uptime, allowing M&T Bank to better serve its customers. The solution also provided immediate cost savings by reducing the need for expensive secondary MPLS networks and enabled the bank to install a secure network connection to a new location in as little as four hours.
