Hughes Provides Network Continuity via Satellite

Pague Menos, Brazil’s largest drugstore chain with more than 780 stores, needed a fast, secure way to connect new outlets to headquarters so they could process customer payments and access inventory and promotions. Faced with terrestrial provisioning times of 45–60 days, Pague Menos turned to Hughes Network Systems and its VSAT satellite network solution to bridge the gap and ensure immediate, secure transaction capability.

Hughes Network Systems deployed managed VSAT terminals, a satellite hub and NOC services to provide IP-based connectivity, automatic switchover during terrestrial outages, and 24/7 monitoring. The result: store activation times fell to as little as five days (versus up to 60), uninterrupted credit/debit processing during outages, fixed installation costs nationwide, and continuous availability that prevents lost sales and keeps inventory and promotional systems online.
