A Hughes Network Systems Case Study
The Emergency Management Agency for a large East Coast state is responsible for keeping citizens and critical infrastructure informed and operational during natural or man-made disasters. Faced with the unacceptable risk of terrestrial Internet outages during crises, the agency engaged Hughes Network Systems to provide satellite-enabled backup and mobile communications (VSAT and HTS Flyaway solutions) to reinforce its broadband resilience and ensure continuous connectivity.
Hughes Network Systems deployed roughly 80 fixed VSAT terminals across 69 counties with automatic failover to satellite when cable, fiber or DSL fails, plus portable HTS Flyaway kits for first‑responder vehicles. The solution—built on Hughes’ JUPITER™ technology and HTS service (up to 25 Mbps down / up to 3 Mbps up)—delivers reliable, cost‑effective Internet continuity to remote sites and mobile teams, keeping emergency operations and critical infrastructure online throughout incidents.
