A Hughes Network Systems Case Study
Leading Retail Petroleum Franchisee Company, a Texas-based convenience store and fuel marketer, struggled with a slow DSL uplink (only 0.39 Mbps delivered) that couldn’t reliably support POS, back-office and predictive sales applications. The company served as a beta site for Hughes Network Systems, deploying the HughesON suite—including the HR4700 Branch Gateway—and HughesON ActiveTechnologies to upgrade and consolidate its network.
Hughes Network Systems implemented ActiveTechnologies (ActiveQoS, ActiveClassifier, ActiveCompression) with the HR4700 and a 4G backup, boosting the uplink from 0.39 Mbps to 3.0 Mbps (up to seven times faster), providing seamless 4G failover (switching within five pings) and centralized, 24/7 managed security using Fortinet features. The result was uninterrupted transactions at a high-volume store, consolidated single-network operations for POS and analytics, improved application performance for Market Basket and accounting, and reduced costs and maintenance overhead.
