A Huawei Case Study
Yanbu Industrial City, managed by the Royal Commission for Yanbu, is one of Saudi Arabia’s major industrial hubs, but rapid growth brought challenges such as limited network capacity, road damage from heavy vehicles, parking shortages, high lighting costs, inefficient waste collection, and security risks in underground and crowded areas. To support Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, the city needed a smarter infrastructure and management approach, and worked with Huawei on ICT and smart city solutions.
Huawei implemented a phased smart city program for Yanbu Industrial City, starting with broadband, cloud, and telecom infrastructure, then adding smart applications such as Heavy Vehicle Management, Smart Waste Management, Smart Streetlight, Smart Parking, Energy Efficiency Monitoring, Crowd Density Analysis, Smart Manhole Cover, and performance management. Huawei’s networks, data center and platform technologies helped connect devices and support real-time monitoring and analysis. The results included a 20% reduction in road maintenance costs, a 50% improvement in garbage clearing efficiency, a 30% reduction in public lighting costs, and a 30% increase in parking utilization, while resident satisfaction reached 90% and external investment growth rose to 16%.
