Case Study: Zhengzhou Rail Transit Co., Ltd. achieves the world’s first LTE metro line with Huawei eLTE

A Huawei Case Study

Preview of the Zhengzhou Rail Transit Co., Ltd. Case Study

World’s First LTE Metro Line

Zhengzhou Rail Transit Co., Ltd. operates the rapidly growing Zhengzhou Metro system in central China and needed a next-generation communications network to improve passenger information, safety, and real-time operations across its metro lines. The company’s challenge was that traditional WLAN-based PIS and wireless video systems could not provide reliable real-time service, stable mobility, or enough uplink capacity for mobile applications such as train-borne video surveillance.

Huawei implemented its eLTE solution on Zhengzhou Metro Line 1 to deliver ground-to-train broadband communications for PIS, HD video surveillance, and fire warning services. The Huawei system provided about 20 Mbit/s downlink per train, strong uplink performance, QoS-based traffic prioritization, and coverage of up to 1,200 meters per cell, reducing equipment quantity and O&M costs while enabling the world’s first LTE metro line and laying the foundation for future metro communications applications.
