Wi-Fi Network Advances Warehouse Logistics Systems

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia’s largest university, needed to modernize its warehouse logistics and asset management operations. Its four physically separated warehouses faced electromagnetic interference, signal attenuation from metal racks, and roaming challenges for handheld scanners and barcode readers. RMIT turned to Huawei and its WLAN Planner-based wireless design approach to support real-time warehouse management and RTLS-enabled asset tracking.

Huawei delivered a comprehensive wireless network solution using indoor and outdoor APs, high-gain directional antennas, and carefully designed wireless channels for seamless coverage and backhaul between warehouses. The result was complete Wi-Fi coverage, smoother roaming, improved management efficiency, simplified deployment and OAM, and lower investment costs. The Huawei solution also integrated with RMIT’s RTLS research environment, supporting positioning accuracy of 2–3 meters indoors and 5 meters outdoors.
