Video Conferencing-as-a-Service Simplifies Communications for EDP

EDP, a global energy company based in Portugal, needed to unify video conferencing across 255 rooms and a worldwide workforce of 12,000 employees after multiple acquisitions left it with mixed vendor equipment. The company wanted a flexible Video Conferencing-as-a-Service (VCaaS) model that would work across devices, integrate with Microsoft Skype for Business and Office 365, and support communication from boardrooms to tablets and smartphones.

Huawei, working with partner Tecnocom, implemented a VCaaS solution with telepresence systems, interoperable peripherals, and support for video, voice, recording, and streaming. The new OPEX-based service lowered costs versus owning and maintaining disparate systems, simplified communications across locations, and enabled EDP to hold video meetings, webinars, and remote participation more easily, even in low-bandwidth sites such as hydroelectric and renewable power plants.
