Servers Animate Illumination Mac Guff Films

Illumination Mac Guff, the Paris-based animation studio behind hit films like Despicable Me, needed to upgrade its IT environment to support rapidly growing 3D rendering demands. The company faced challenges with insufficient rendering performance, limited equipment room space, high stability requirements, and a need for easier deployment and O&M. Huawei was selected to help address these needs, with a solution based on its HPC infrastructure and E9000 converged architecture blade servers.

Huawei implemented E9000 servers with CH140 high-density compute nodes, integrated storage/network resources, and high-speed switching to boost rendering throughput and reduce latency. The result was an 80% improvement in rendering performance, 50% less equipment room space, a drop in rack configuration time from over 10 hours to about 30 minutes, and a 30% reduction in time-to-market, all while improving reliability and simplifying operations.
