Case Study: Chongqing Rail Transit achieves secure, reliable CBTC communications with Huawei eLTE Wireless Network

A Huawei Case Study

Preview of the Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT) Case Study

Railway Relies on Huawei eLTE Wireless Network

Chongqing Rail Transit (CRT), a major urban rail operator in Western China, needed a more reliable train-to-ground wireless communication system for its expanding metro network. Its existing WLAN-based CBTC setup faced increasing interference, frequent handover interruptions at higher train speeds, and difficult maintenance conditions in Chongqing’s mountainous terrain. Huawei provided the eLTE Train-to-Ground Wireless Communication solution to address these CBTC and train-status monitoring requirements.

Huawei implemented a licensed 1.8 GHz eLTE solution with low-latency, highly reliable connectivity and hierarchical QoS to prioritize CBTC traffic. The system also improved interconnectivity across LTE networks and supported agile inter-line operations for CRT’s Line 5 and the Circle Line. Huawei reported reliability of 99.999%, helping enable safer, more stable rail operations and supporting future ridership expected to exceed one million passengers per day.
