Public Transit Authority Improved Performance

Lucerne Public Transport Authority (VBL), a public transit operator in Switzerland, was facing increasing pressure on its five-year-old ICT infrastructure as demand grew for networking, internet, mobility, ticketing, and nightly batch processing. The rising load was causing performance problems for passengers, employees, vehicles, and mission-critical applications. Huawei storage products were brought in through ICT consultant and service provider Infoniqa SQL AG to address these challenges.

Huawei implemented a pair of OceanStor S5500T storage systems for a fully redundant, scalable setup with 24/7 support, improved VMware and Oracle performance, and Fiber Channel backup. The solution delivered at least 5,000 IOPS, backed by 32-GB cache and 1.2-TB Smart SSD cache per unit, and test results confirmed the performance target. As a result, VBL reported faster batch jobs, much better server performance, smooth migration, and a simple configuration platform that helped eliminate its past performance issues.
