Playing it Smart: eLTE Goes to the Games

Nanjing Municipal Government needed a citywide wireless broadband network to support “Smart Nanjing,” improve public services, and prepare for the 2013 Asian Youth Games and 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Its existing options, including Wi‑Fi, WiMAX, public 3G, and TETRA expansion, could not deliver the performance, reliability, bandwidth, and scalability required for a large, complex city and major sports venues. Huawei was selected to provide its eLTE solution.

Huawei implemented an end-to-end eLTE network that unified fixed and mobile communications, integrated fragmented information systems, and enabled citywide voice, video, and data services for public security, traffic, firefighting, emergency response, healthcare, and utilities. During the games, Huawei’s solution supported fixed and mobile surveillance and coordinated dispatch across command centers, organizers, security, and transportation, helping ensure reliable communications and event success. The result was a scalable, lower-cost-to-manage network with improved emergency communications and a stronger foundation for a smarter city.
