A Huawei Case Study
Qingdao Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom (Shandong), needed to bring a large new data center online quickly to serve growing demand from major Internet companies. To meet an aggressive two-year rollout, large-scale capacity requirements, and strict reliability needs, the company turned to Huawei for one-stop planning, design, integration, and delivery services.
Huawei designed a tailored data center solution that included converting an old factory building, optimizing the Tier 3 2N power architecture, implementing water-side free cooling, using CFD-based modular airflow design, and upgrading the backbone network and server configurations. The result was a faster launch—1 to 2 years ahead of a new-build approach—99.99% reliability, 1.5 PUE, 8 million kWh in annual power savings, and ROI recovery within four years.
