OceanStor Takes on Big Data for Media

RNP, Brazil’s national research and education network, needed a large, scalable storage platform to manage, analyze, and censor video content for more than 70 TV stations, with plans to expand to over 200 stations and grow from 1 PB to at least 5 PB. The organization also needed to support mixed structured and unstructured data, avoid data silos, and keep performance, reliability, and O&M costs under control. Huawei responded with its OceanStor N8500 Big Data Storage Solution.

Huawei implemented the OceanStor N8500 with an active-active, multi-node cluster architecture, unified SAN and NAS support, and SmartTier dynamic storage tiering. The solution delivered 1 PB initially with scale-out potential to 15 PB, 2 GB/s throughput, and reduced TCO by over 60% compared with a purely high-performance disk setup. As a result, RNP gained a stable, high-performance platform for video storage, analysis, and censorship that can grow with future media demands.
