A Huawei Case Study
The Bureau of Geophysical Prospecting (BGP), a major geophysical service provider in the energy sector, faced significant challenges in managing over 25 PB of seismic exploration data. Their legacy storage system lacked automatic load balancing, which caused performance bottlenecks, required frequent manual intervention and service interruptions to manage data, and led to prolonged computing times. To support its global operations, BGP needed a new, highly scalable, and reliable storage solution.
Huawei implemented its OceanStor 9000 storage system, which uses a symmetric Scale-out architecture with clustering and automatic load balancing. This solution provided BGP with a massive 60 PB single-namespace capacity and stable high bandwidth. The result was the elimination of manual data adjustment and service downtime, while the system's full redundancy and distributed RAID technology ensured maximum uptime for critical data processing jobs, directly supporting BGP's oil exploration efforts.
