No Longer Just Watch TV — Use It, Too

Shanxi Group, the new Shanxi Broadcasting Television Information Network Group in China, needed to integrate 170-plus dispersed CATV networks and move beyond simple TV broadcasting toward integrated information services. To support triple-play services and rising demand for broadband and HD video, it faced MAN bandwidth bottlenecks, high leased-line costs, and the need to modernize its video and broadband infrastructure. Huawei provided the network foundation for this transformation, including CE12800 data center switches and NE5000E/NE40E routing platforms.

Huawei built separate provincial and municipal VoD service platforms and a broadband backbone for Shanxi Group, using virtualized CE12800 switches to simplify management and improve reliability, plus an NE5000E-based core connected to NE40E and BRAS for the broadband MAN. The dual-network/dual-plane design physically isolated VoD from broadband traffic, reduced bandwidth pressure, and improved flexibility and resilience. Huawei said the design increased ROI, delivered 2–3 microsecond latency for VoD signaling, and enabled more accurate capacity upgrades aligned with subscriber growth.
