A Huawei Case Study
ZICTA, the Zambian ICT Authority, was helping the government build a “Smart Zambia” but faced major challenges with fragmented IT systems, delayed access to critical data, unreliable power for data infrastructure, and inefficient inter-ministry communication. Huawei provided the core technologies for the initiative, including Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions, a cloud platform, and smart data center facilities.
Huawei implemented a Three-Data-Centers-in-Two-Cities (3DC) national data center solution, cloud services for government hosting, ICT training through the Smart Zambia ICT Academy, and telepresence systems for more efficient communication across ministries. The result was a centralized, secure, and resilient government ICT foundation that improved efficiency, reduced travel and meeting costs, supported paperless operations, and enabled better service delivery; the project also included 5 three-screen and 21 two-screen telepresence systems and a Phase II broadband rollout targeting 17 cities, 9,050 km of fiber, 10,000 organizations, and 200,000 urban households.
