Case Study: Shanghai Metro achieves reliable 10 Gbit/s driverless rail communications with Huawei

A Huawei Case Study

Preview of the Shanghai Metro Case Study

Metro Transmission Network Serves Well

Shanghai Metro needed a highly reliable private transmission subsystem for Line 10, China’s first driverless railway line, to support Ethernet-based communications across multiple subsystems. The challenge was to ensure stable, bus-based looped Ethernet services for systems such as private telephone, radio, power control, AFC, monitoring, video surveillance, and PIS while maintaining continuity if a node failed. Huawei addressed this with its OptiX OSN transport equipment and embedded RPR technology.

Huawei implemented three STM-64 SDH rings for Shanghai Metro Line 10, using OptiX OSN 7500 and OptiX OSN 3500 systems to deliver a 10 Gbit/s private transmission network. The solution enabled Ethernet service switching within 50 ms, significantly minimizing service disruption and improving reliability for the railway line’s entire private system.
