A Huawei Case Study
Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), a major South Korean public broadcaster, faced significant challenges in transitioning to 4K ultra-HD news production. Their existing storage infrastructure could not handle the enormous bandwidth and capacity demands of multi-layer 4K video editing or provide the zero data loss and 24/7 system availability required for their critical news operations. To build a new-generation production system, KBS selected Huawei and its OceanStor 9000 distributed storage solution.
Huawei implemented a high-performance solution featuring two OceanStor 9000 systems for primary and backup storage, utilizing its InfoReplicator and InfoTurbo technologies. This provided the necessary high bandwidth for concurrent 4K editing, eliminated single points of failure for maximum data protection, and enabled easy capacity expansion. The results were groundbreaking: KBS became the first to transition to 4K production in the country, achieving a richer viewer experience and securing the technical foundation for broadcasting major events like the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. Huawei provided the technical assurance for KBS's successful move into ultra-HD programming.
