Huawei's Centralized Redundant Backup System

The National Audit Office of the People’s Republic of China (CNAO) needed to build a nationwide centralized redundancy backup system for its Golden Audit Project to protect sensitive audit data from 18 branches. With DB2 and SQL-based systems, limited internal expertise, low network bandwidth, and no data validation method at the redundancy center, CNAO looked to Huawei for a secure, high-performance backup solution.

Huawei implemented a centralized backup architecture using HyperMirror and S6800E/S5000 storage systems, enabling many-to-one replication from all branches to the redundancy centers in Huairou and Changsha. The solution used incremental block-level backup to save bandwidth and VM-based recovery drills to verify data reliability. As a result, CNAO improved data security and geographic redundancy, avoided network restructuring, and reduced storage needs from more than 40 sets to about 20, lowering TCO while speeding deployment and maintenance.
