Huawei Wi-Fi Network Upgrades Quito Transit

Quito Transit Agency, the city-run public transit operator in Quito, Ecuador, needed to upgrade connectivity across its buses, trams, and trolley buses to meet strong passenger demand for free Wi-Fi. The agency also wanted reliable support for HD video surveillance and emergency communications on vehicles carrying up to 225 passengers, while dealing with bandwidth, high-density coverage, and stability challenges in complex urban environments. Huawei provided the vehicle-ground WLAN backhaul solution.

Huawei implemented a vehicle-mounted WLAN backhaul design built around soft switching, WLAN planning tools, and dual-plane backup. Using Huawei’s AP9131DN and an A+B plane architecture, the system delivered high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity with better reliability and reduced packet loss, even in interference-heavy routes. As a result, Quito Transit Agency could provide smooth HD video surveillance, stable emergency communications, and a strong passenger Wi-Fi experience for browsing, calling, streaming, and downloads.
