Huawei Ups Shuohuang Railway’s Capacity to 350M Tons

Shenhua Group Corporation’s Shuohuang Railway, the world’s largest coal supplier’s heavy-haul rail line, needed to raise capacity toward 350 million tons annually while safely operating longer, heavier trains with tighter headways. The railway also needed a unified communications network for mission-critical services such as train dispatching, train tail control, trunking communications, and video surveillance.

Huawei implemented its Railway Operational Communication Solution based on LTE technology, in collaboration with railway engineering and research partners. The solution added dual-network coverage, optical transmission for safety services, QoS for critical operations, and a unique direct-routing method for train terminals, helping Huawei deliver 99.999% system availability and cut communication latency to less than 200 milliseconds for real-time multi-locomotive control.
