A Huawei Case Study
Northumberland College, a further education provider serving around 7,000 students across multiple sites in Northumberland, needed to modernize an aging IT environment that had seen little investment for eight years. Working with Huawei, the college set out to transform its core and edge networks, improve campus-wide Wi‑Fi, and support growing BYOD and communications demands across its Ashington and Kirkley campuses.
Huawei rebuilt the college’s infrastructure with a 40GE core based on S9700 core switches, S5700 PoE switching, IP telephony for 400 users, and cross-campus Wi‑Fi using an AC6605 controller with AP5010DN and AP6610DN access points, managed through eSight NMS and policy center. The result was a resilient, end-to-end platform delivered on time and to budget, giving students connectivity across all locations, including the farm and zoo at Kirkley, and creating a foundation for future VDI plans.
