Huawei Storage Keeps Transit Data on Schedule

Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern (VBL), the public transit agency serving Lucerne, Switzerland, was facing growing pressure on its data center as more passengers relied on its smartphone apps and online services. The agency needed faster performance during peak daytime traffic, better support for virtualization, and storage that could handle failures and heavy workloads without service disruptions. To address this, VBL worked with Huawei and IT partner Infoniqa.

Huawei implemented the OceanStor S5500T storage system for VBL, delivering up to 60,000 IOPS, SmartCache for faster access to frequently used data, and full VMware VAAI support for improved virtual machine performance. The new solution also provided flexible scalability up to 1.5 PB, helping VBL plan for future growth. As a result, VBL reported much quicker system response, smoother operation in the VM environment, better handling of peak-hour demand, and fewer device faults.
